Am Sonntag Vormittag stand die Ermutigung der christlichen Communities im Vordergrund. Unsere Delegation besuchte vier christliche Gottesdienste in Abuja, der Hauptstadt Nigerias, um die Christen vor Ort zu ermutigen.

Wir begannen um 7:00 Uhr morgens mit einem katholischen Gottesdienst, in den mich ein baptistischer Pastor begleitete. Um 9:00 Uhr folgte ein Gottesdienst bei den Baptisten, danach bei den Pfingstlern. Der vierte Gottesdienst fand bei den Methodisten statt.

In jedem Gottesdienst wurden wir vorgestellt und durften eine Rede halten. Die wichtigsten Elemente unserer Botschaft findet ihr im Anschluss.

Es war schön zu sehen, wie sehr sich die Menschen über unseren Besuch freuten. Sie fühlen sich dadurch gesehen, anstatt verlassen oder vergessen. Wir wollen ihnen nicht einseitig die Welt erklären, sondern zuhören und zeigen, dass wir ihr Leid mittragen. Gleichzeitig können wir auch voneinander lernen.

I am here this week as the Executive Director of the First Step Forum. Our mission is simple yet vital: we stand in solidarity with those who face challenges because of their faith. We work internationally to advocate for religious freedom, human rights, and the dignity of every person.

​We have come to Abuja not just to observe, but to listen and to learn. We want to understand the heartbeat of your nation and your churches, so that we can be better voices for peace and justice in the international community. We believe that when one part of the Body of Christ suffers, we all suffer; and when one part is strengthened, we are all encouraged.

As we reflect on our time here, I am reminded of the powerful words found in Galatians 6:2: ​‘Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.’

​This ‘carrying of burdens’ is not a one-way street. We are here to carry your stories and your prayers back with us to Europe. But we also lean on you—we are deeply inspired by your resilience, your vibrant faith, and your steadfast hope. You remind us that the Gospel is not just words, but power and life!
